Why no PayPal
Just once - and only once - I shall put into print the reasons for NOT using PayPal
- If you take the time to read PayPal’s Terms of Service, you will find that Birthday Bonus Club is definitely not one of PayPal’s acceptable websites. We use a forced matrix which is strictly against their Terms.
- We are a South African based company and - according to PayPal - we cannot be trusted with money. Whilst PayPal will happily accept our money, it is not prepared to accept credit card transactions on our behalf.
- Setting up any Payment Processor is an enormous amount of work - scripting and testing. With both AlertPay and MoneyBookers, the respective API’s make it possible to track payments and execute the local processing very easily. With PayPal, we would have to make every member a Paypal Merchant to get the same results. The unfortunate part about this is that, since I cannot set up a PayPal account capable of receiving funds, I would never be able to test the scripts needed.
- PayPal has an unenviable reputation for withholding funds - you can read some of the horror stories at www.aboutpaypal.org - bearing in mind the nature of Birthday Bonus Club, this is a distinct possibility.
- Finally, I am not alone - approximately 20% of our membership would not be able to use PayPal
So - there you have it - sorry folks - but No PayPal!

In direct response to your points regarding PayPal and the Birthday Bonus Club I would like to point out the following factors that I deem are extremely important.
Firstly the reason that people join the BBC is to earn money, most understand the rules and apply them correctly. However the actual “pledge of payment” is not with the Birthday Bonus Club it is with other members, namely their upline and immediate downline.
I have openly stated to members who have not been able to pay me their personal pledge. That I will accept PayPal as I am legally permitted to accept their gift, and they are legally permitted to send it.
Alert Pay are having some serious issues as we are all aware regarding Mastercard. Additionally you have (thankfully) allowed an alternative Moneybookers but have yet to provide a functioning pay now button on your website, so by definition and by fact my personal payout has been utterly unacceptable.
Personally I was expecting a figure in the region of $2.500 when in fact I have received less than $100. This has proven to be a complete waste of time on my part and an unacceptable headache for those who wished to pay me.
I am sticking with the Birthday Bonus Club because I feel it will flourish in the end, however I do think that you are trying to hard to manage every aspect of the payment, when in fact less interference from you would ensure this is both legal and practical for members to use any processor that accepts their country to send and receive monies.
I will forward you all the necessary details of the members whom have sent me my Birthday Gift at the end of this week. Regardless of what method they have chosen to pay the fact is they have taken the time to honour their pledge and have paid me accordingly.
How the Birthday Bonus Club chooses to use that information is entirely up to you. I am happy that they have paid me, which is exactly the same reason why I have joined the BBC.
One final point that may be worth noting, you can use a modified Alertpay API to directly integrate and validate all payments automatically, this again will save you as administrators needing to personally validate payments and will greatly improve the process for your members.
Best regards
Gulden

I stand behind Tom (admin) on this issue of PayPal. Although I have never personally been affected in this way, I have heard horror stories from friends who have had their funds frozen because PayPal “found out” they were being used for MLM and it was “unacceptable” to them. I truly wish Gulden the best and I hope this does not happen to you. But PayPal DOES NOT LIKE IT, just please be warned.

I just had to leave this comment regarding the payment system. I had a program which uses PP as a payment portal.
The discerting thing about what I experienced was that a person who signed up with me had a problem at their end making payment with PP. She ended up paying thrice for the program insread of once.
I took the initiative of personally refunding her payments via PP, even thought I was not the administrator of the program, and had no control regarding the payment system.
I went out of my way to make things easier for this person by refunding their payment.
Would you know that, a month later I was getting a chargeback because this same person complained that I overcharged them for the program. I had now to prove that I did nothing wrong. So I had to show PP that I refunded the disputed charges and that the complaints were bogus!
Just one story I hope helps.

Hi! I live in Germany and my problem with AlertPay by which I have an empty account since almost a year now, is how to transfer or pay money into my account there. I have tried to communicate this problem to the admin but have not yet received any key response. I need to see their bank and account number in which I can then make a transfer to my account. Could you please furnish me with this? Thank you!

As an eBay seller, very soon to be EX eBay seller, I detest PayPal with a passion. It used to be a good service until eBay took it over and ruined it just like they ruined the auction site. They’ve caused me tremendous headaches and great loss of money that I could ill afford to lose. So I have sound reason to wish they would fall off the planet. But until they do, they are a somewhat necessary internet evil until some of the alternatives get their ducks in a row and are easier to work with.
That being said, I agree with Gulden that the payments occur between members and payment proofs could be furnished to BBC….a note on the payment could say simply Happy Birthday, my friend…or the person’s name. I don’t think they really need more bad press….this time calling them the Birthday Police…hehe
I have to wonder at the stance that South African businesses or people can’t be trusted with money….look at the condition the US is in….and they’re HERE. Plus, if anyone can’t be trusted with money, in my experience, it’s THEM. Just more evidence that they are the spawn of Satan.

I just wanted to say I have used PP for about five years now and I have never had a problem. I also sell on ebay. Here is the problem I have. AlertPay….
Yes I have a problem with Alertpay. I had a problem getting my money transfered from my bank account into Alertpay, it took me about five weeks. Now I wanted to pay a person for there birthday and they say they don’t have my email in there account. I now have money in Alertpay, but now when I wanted to pay a person I can’t because Alertpay doesn’t recognise my email.
I am on the verge of canceling out my account. Oh, yes I want to pay for birthdays but my birthday was March 18th and I never receive a penny, why is this?
Thanks!

With aletpay you have to have your account verified before you can transfer money into your aletpay account.I have never had any problem with paypal either.I have not made any money with BBC and the one person I was to send money to had a bad email address so the money did not go.I like the birthbay club because I think it is a very good idea to do it the way they do but they need to work on the system a little bit
