Verifiction is the Wrong Word!

Posted on Friday, April 3rd, 2009 in Uncategorized

Just a quick word about the use of the word “verification” in relation to AlertPay in my earlier post.

Our AlertPay “verification” has nothing whatsoever to do with AlertPay’s need for verification of your identity and address!

The problem that we have - time after time - is that we really have no idea whether or not individual member actually has an AlertPay account. When a member’s Birthday comes around, we send out Birthday requests for him/her - only to be flooded with emails saying :

  • there is no AlertPay member with this email address
  • this member has not confirmed his email address
  • this member must upgrade

Now, rather than worry about the people who don’t pay - we have to chase after the Birthday Boy/Girl and ask them to open or fix their account so that others can pay them! Weird!

Hence the need for “verification” - but let’s rather call it “linking

The process of linking is very simple and takes about five minutes

  1. We ask you to make sure that you have a confirmed Personal Pro AlertPay Account
  2. We will then ask you to make a small change to your AlertPay account settings and to turn your Test Mode ON
  3. Once you have done that, we’ll ask you to make a $1.00 payment to yourself! It costs you nothing since you are in Test mode :-)
  4. (Hopefully) all works well and we can tell you that your AlertPay account is “linked” - and we will ask yoiu to turn Test Mode OFF!

What this process does is to create a “callback” to BBC so that when you make a payment from your AlertPay account a “status report” is sent back to us. From that, we can see that your donation has been paid and your Rating and Ad Credits will be updated immediately!

The process does NOT

  • give us any access to you account
  • give us any information about your identity in any form
  • affect you security in any way.

I will complete the AlertPay Linkage script over the weekend and it will be available on Monday.

    It’s actually Verification

Anyway; I’ve used AlertPay almost daily for 3 years…you aren’t expecting me to “test” this are you???

  5. Michael Says:

    1. Log into your AlertPay account
    2. Click on Business Tools
    3. Click on IPN Setup
    4. Enter your Transaction PIN and click on Access
    6. For ‘Test Mode’, select Enabled or Disabled
    7. Click on Update

When Test Mode is enabled, payments made to this business account will be test transactions.

I’ve tried several attempts to link my account and it fails.
Get the message you can not send money to yourself.

    Hello there.

This site has a great concept. As far as Alertpay goes, I give them the two thumbs down. Their website is always slow to load ( if ever) and logging in is equally nightmarish.

How about looking at Safepay Solutions as another payment option? Their verification method is easy (credit card linking- just like paypal) and there’s no hassle especially for international members to verify their account. With Alertpay, it’s a nightmare to get your identity verified a ( especially if you live elsewhere in the world) and even if you upload the documents that they require, they’ll reject your application and ask you to go through the same process over and over again forever.

    Thanks

I just tried to get “linked” by putting my account into Test Mode and making a $1 payment to myself.

I received the message “You cannot send money to yourself.”.

So this doesn’t work to get our Alerpay account “Linked”

How about our making a payment of $1 to BBC for advertising to get “Linked”

I have been arguing…on line…with AlertPay since I joined….I used to have my bank listed but now they show a credit card that is defunct….so, have not made my payment yet…my birthday is June 6…so,I do hope they get everything straightened out before then..
Have any of you had these probems with AlertPay? And, if so, is there another pay system that this company will accept…
