Server Outage

Apologies to all concerned but we suffered a server outage for about 5 hours today. This was due to the database server being overloaded. It has now been re-configured and appears to be handling its load quite happily.

I will be setting up a new - bigger, faster - server later today and making plans for migration - which is likely to happen at our next scheduled maintenance - Monday 12 January 08:00 GMT. Otherwise, I will give everyone plenty of notice of date and time.

UPDATE Sunday 11 January 15:30 GMT

Setup of the new server is complete and I will finish basic testing early tomorrow morning. We will shut down at 08:00 GMT and you can expect us to off line for 30 - 60 minutes. Please note that during the swap-over period (about twelve hours) you may find that you are redirected from the old server to the new one which may slow down access very slightly.

Update 10 January 2009

Once again, the server went down again - and I believe that this was a DDOS attack. The new server is being set up and should be available for Monday.

    I realize it is hard when a site goes down.

    Perhaps you could update members in there and then no-one would worry….

    Hi Tom,

    We all understand the challenges of technology. I have a suggestion for wording on the wep page. Where it says “Hi - I’m Bernie and my Birthday is on 13th December” Could you put December in front of 13th or insert the words “the” and “of” so it reads “Hi - I’m Bernie and my Birthday is on the 13th of December”. I think the first change reads better. Hi - I’m Bernie and my Birthday is December 13th. Just a thought.

    Also do you know how long it will be down on monday? I’d rather wait till after it is down to send my mailings out.

    If all goes to plan tomorrow (Sunday) the downtime will not exceed 30 minutes - we should be back online by 08:30 (GMT) Monday

    Hey everybody,
    I couldn’t log back in to the website, then I requested a new password
    I was able to log back in. Now I need to work on getting people under
    my wife whose birthday is in march. Everyone have a happy birthday
    and may prosperity come to everyone’s door.
